NHNSI Kicks Off Osteoporosis Awareness Month With A Bang!!

May is National Osteoporosis Awareness Month. NHNSI kicked the month off with
a fundraising event featuring a one-mile walk and health fair with all proceeds benefiting the National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF). We were able to raise nearly $10,000 which will assist the NOF in its mission to prevent osteoporosis and related fractures, to promote bone health, to help improve the lives of those affected by osteoporosis and to find a cure through programs of awareness, advocacy, public and health professional education and research.

We are so proud of our volunteers, sponsors, and participants for making the event so successful!

In keeping with the Osteoporosis Awareness Month theme, NHNSI held it’s first Osteoporosis Support Group Meeting on May 13th, 2008. It was a great success! Attendees were treated to dinner and a presentation discussing osteoporosis. The presentation covered what osteoporosis is, how it is diagnosed, prevention of osteoporosis, and treatment. The evening was closed with a question and answer session as well as sharing of personal osteoporosis related stories among the attendees.

Each month will feature a new osteoporosis related topic and guest presenter(s). The support group meeting will be held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6 pm. The meeting is free and open to the public and a light dinner is provided.
